How can I make donations?
You can make donations by cheque, credit card, bank deposit or PPS to support the SCHSA. (Click here for details)
Are my donations tax-deductible?
The Senior Citizen Home Safety Association is an approved charitable institution (IRD ref no. 91/4770). In accordance with the Inland Revenue Ordinance in Hong Kong, if the total amount of your donations to an approved charitable institution is HK$100 or above during a financial year, these will be tax-deductible upon submission of donation receipts. The SCHSA can issue receipts for all donations; but donors can help us to save administrative costs by choosing not to receive a receipt.
What proportion of the SCHSA's fund-raising expenditure goes towards the donation proceeds?
We understand that every dollar of donation is not obtained easily, so we endeavour to keep our fund-raising expenditure under strict control. In the year 2001-2002, for example, the annual fund-raising expenditure was about 7% of the annual donation proceeds, and in 2003-2004 it was 8%. Therefore, over 90% of the donations received are directly used in various elderly services and subsidising the needy in using the PE Link Service free of charge. How does the SCHSA monitor the use of donation proceeds?
The SCHSA has stringent monitoring procedures in place for the donation proceeds in order to ensure that they directly benefit the people in need. In addition, the SCHSA also appoints a professional firm of accountants to carry out an audit every year as to whether our financial statements give a true and fair view of our financial status during that year. We also carry our unit cost analysis in our operation, so as to be steward in using any of your donation. A copy of the latest financial statements of the SCHSA can be obtained by contacting our Public Relations Department on 2338 8312.
